Gosha Rubchinskiy ss18
|
Gosha's SS18 collection was a vibrant, and bold representation of rave culture, with a nod to football culture. He collaborated with the massive fashion house that is burberry, reintroducing the classics, perhaps
trying to imitate the relation of the football hooligan with burberry, when it was deemed 'chavvy'. Regardless it worked very well, representing british and russian culture, and keeping with the traditional burberry check, and shapes, it reintroduced it as perfectly modern, and cool. |
I came across this video when doing research about gosha rubchinskiy. I found it really interesting, its a real insight into the youth of russia, and how rubchinskiy is contributing to the creativity of the young minds, and helping them with their futures, whilst bringing attention to the post soviet country. The people are so interesting, and something that sets him apart from other designers, is the fact he has such a focus within his work. Using Russian Youth culture as inspiration for his collections, and only using russian models simply creates a sense of individualism, that no other designer brings. This is something i love about his work.
Gosha Rubchinskiy AW17
|
Gosha Rubchinskiy's AW17/18 show displayed a fabulous mix between sportswear and tailoring. Keeping with muted tones, with vibrant pops of colour, i love the combination of trainers with tailoring, it brings such a new and fresh vibe. The clashing colours are and prints are also a really big trend this season. Mismatched heaven. The black and white dogtooth suit, paired with a dark camel coat, and a jersey jumper tied around the shoulders provides a twist to a classic smart look, it brings a casualness.
The teal, turquoise coat , with the unusual chest fastening is a stand out piece for me. The neoprene style fabric creates a sports feel to the garment, and mixed with some of the more tailored pieces would be super modern, LIKE THE WHITE ADIDAS COAT WITH THE PINSTRIPE SUIT. iT HAS A 'FOOTBALL MANAGER' VIBE, WHICH IS REALLY RELEVANT, AS THE FOOTBALL SHIRT SEEMS TO BE APPARENT AT THE MOMENT. I love the mixture of casual and smart, it really inspires me for my third year, as i really want to incorporate this idea within my collection. Keep it tailored, but with elements of really cool sportswear, to create an overall really current feel. |
Fendi AW17/18 Menswear
|
Fendi presented their AW 17/18 show in milan, where models adorned beautiful fur outerwear, contrast sleeves and strong, bold typography. I feel like Fendi have gone really bold with collection, by combining loud prints, and bright graphics and colour, like this leopard coat, and contrast pink trouser. The cobalt blue really sets itself apart from the busy print, and creates a really satisfying contrast. The formal dusty pink trouser has a relaxed twist with the elasticated hem, keeping a sense of modernity throughout the whole look. I really love the mixture of sportswear and formalwear, it feels super fresh, especially with the choice of prints and colour.
Fendi have conveyed quite a strong vibe throughout, its impactful in every sense of the word, from their colours, to textures to graphics. everything! i love this aspect of the collection because they've just gone for it. The fourth look on the left has quite a rebellious feel, it screams 'i wear what i want and i don't care'. Who would have thought wearing a smart, tailored evening trouser, with a canary yellow jersey high neck, and a graphically printed fur coat would be a 'day look'? not me. but this works so well, and seems so versatile. Just appears so modern, and extremely cool, overall a great collection, so luxurious, so fun and new. |
Reflective Rules!
i am very interested and fascinated by technical fabrics, which is
why i love sportswear! the fabrics and
materials are clever, and many brands, especially those
that specialise in functional sportswear are using reflective fabrics in their designs
i came across this 'dc shoes snow jacket', and i was amazed
by the technology within the garment, as through the human eye it appears black with a subtle pattern,
seen in my video below.
however in a photograph displaying flash it becomes a completely different
jacket altogether. a reflection appears, creating a new, striking pattern, almost like magic.
Many brands e.g. stone island/nike/icny are very focused on their
fabrics, and creating something unique and specialised. stone island has
previously opened a reflective research exhibition in 2015, that displayed how
they coat fabrics with resins that contain thousands of glass
microspheres, to attain the hidden reflective aesthetic. icny brought out a
new reflective capsule collection this summer (2016), which appeared more functional than
anything else...e.g to keep safe and seen during dark nights, whilst also being
fashion forward. This concept also seems to be something much more
prominent in menswear brands, which is also what draws me to it.
men are known to prefer more attention to detail in their clothing, and that's perhaps
why these technical fabrics are used moreso in menswear.
I find this concept so interesting, its almost like bringing the fabrics to life. this level
of technology involved within specialised fabrics is amazing, and can only be more
and more developed in the future. i just felt like writing about it and researching it
a bit more, it might be something i want to look into as a designer, and perhaps
introduce in my work.

Ted Baker Internship
TEDS store portfolio images
I thouht it seemed approriate to blog about this, considering it was such an amazing
experience and opportunity.
So...i was an intern at the ted baker hq for 2 weeks THIS SUMMER, in the
store design department, KNOWN AS THE SPECIAL PROJECTS TEAM. i arrived, with nerves (of
course!) luckily my cousin india works as a store designer so
i had some familiarity. i arrived at the ugly brown building like a lost puppy, but soon got
acquainted and introduced to everyone.
it was an amazing insight into the real world
of design and how it all works. i was in awe at the fact that this is their day
to day jobs, and they get to actually design for a living, it was so refreshing.
The store design at ted baker is thrilling, i couldn't believe how much goes into each store,
the international stores are the most exciting, from creating the concept to the colour
scheme of each store, which are all different. it was so fun. i was finding and purchasing
props for various stores around the world, i almost felt like i had a big responsibility...like
imagine if i did it wrong, but i managed to do my job.
The best bit of the whole experience was definitely when i got to go to the menswear department
for a couple of hours. it was thrilling. almost like another world to store design, and
that was interesting to compare the difference, even though they are both design.
i met some amazing people, who were all so welcoming in menswear, specifically formal wear,
that was very fascinating, and has given me more of an interest in formalwear now! i was lucky
enough to attend a couple of fittings, i just sat and took every little thing in, everything was
just so fast paced, but i loved that!
Seeing all the samples and mood boards just made me realise how much fun it is to work
in that environment. i hope to go back sometime next year, but this time intern in menswear!
experience and opportunity.
